Academic Institutes

Assumption College's history is enriched by its institues, centers and special programs that enliven the intellectual, spiritual and social dimensions of the college and Greater Worcester community.

  • Aaron T. Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies: The Aaron T. Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies, a 1996 addition to the College, provides educational programs and workshops that cover world-renowned creative behavior therapists in the field of creative behavior therapy. The programs complement the Master's in Counseling Psychology casework ad serves as a vital resource to mental health professionals and Assumption's undergraduate psychology students.
  • Ecumenical Institute: The Ecumenical Institute provides a forum for reflection and discussion of questions of common interest to Christians and to people of other faiths as well. The Institute offers lectures throughout the academic year.
  • French Institute: The French Institute is both an academic research facility and a resource center for persons interested in francophone questions. It organizes colloquia, publishes books, and initiates a variety of cultural projects.
  • Institute for Social and Rehabilitation Studies: The Institute for Human and Rehabilitation Services develops leaders in the field of social rehabilitation and rehabilitation services, using a multidisciplinary approach drawing from rehabilitation, sociology, psychology, natural sciences, economics, education and the humanities. The Institute was established in 1967 and encompasses a number of programs aimed at educating students and professional counselors. The Institute includes the undergraduate program in Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies, the graduate programs in Rehabilitation Counseling (online and on-campus), School Counseling, and the Region I Technical Assistance and Continuing Education Program (TACE).   • The Institute for School Counseling and School Psychology: The Institute for School Counseling and School Psychology is one of the few professional continuing education programs in the nation focused exclusively on the needs of school counselors. The Institute offers: professional training for counselors and psychologists on new theories and methodologies, on-site in-service training for teachers and administrators, and outreach consultation to schools seeking assistance with delivery of service.
  • Worcester Institute for Senior Education (W.I.S.E.): The Worcester Institute for Senior Education (W.I.S.E.) was developed by Assumption College to offer a specialized continuing education program for seniors. The ollege continues to host this program, which offers non-credit courses in most major academic disciplines to older learners in the community. W.I.S.E. enrolls 450 elder students in 35 courses each semester.
  • Center for Teaching Excellence:  The Center for Teaching Excellence works to foster and contribute to conversations about teaching and learning through events and programs that inspire collaboration and professional development.
