Prayer & Worship

Assumption College promotes a vibrant campus worshipping community where liturgy is embraced as a central part of our Catholic mission and identity. We offer daily and Sunday Masses throughout the year, and the Liturgy of the Hours is prayed each morning and evening. We offer weekly devotional prayer such as the Rosary and Eucharistic Adoration. Student-led prayer opportunities include Candlelight Prayer and Ignitus Praise and Worship. People of all faith traditions are welcome at every form of worship Campus Ministry offers.

Come see what prayer can do for you!

Liturgical Ministries

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the community are at the heart of the liturgical life of Assumption. By serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Lectors, Ministers of Hospitality, Ministers of Music and Altar Servers. liturgical ministers live out their baptismal call while enriching their spiritual life.

All Liturgical ministers attend training and are committed to responsible service. Both training and scheduling are flexible so that conflicts with other commitments may be minimized.

  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (also called Communion Ministers) serve the Body and Blood of Christ to those assembled for Mass.
  • Lectors spend time preparing and understanding the Word of God then proclaim the Scripture readings during Mass.
  • Ministers of Hospitality greet and welcome people to Mass or Worship celebrations. They also assist with seating and take up the offering.
  • Altar Servers assist the main celebrant during Mass in a variety of ways, including the preparation of the altar.

For more information, contact Deacon Paul Covino.

Music Ministry

Music Ministry provides many opportunities to serve as music ministers for liturgies at Assumption College. The student Chapel Choir and Chapel Instrumentalists:

  • Lead the music at the 7 p.m. Sunday Mass each week as well as other special services including Move-In Day Mass and the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the beginning of the academic year;
  • Lead the music at the annual Advent Service of Lessons and Carols

The Festival Choir brings together students, staff, alumni, and friends of the college to provide music for special liturgical celebrations, including:

  • Christmas Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve
  • Easter Vigil Mass

Many alumni of the Music Ministry program return to participate in the Festival Choir as a way to continue to deepen their spiritual life through sacred music while remaining connected to the college community.

Joe Kwiatkowski, Campus Ministry and Director of Liturgical Music, directs the Chapel Choir, Festival Choir, and Instrumentalists.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Wednesday evening from 8:30-11 PM in the Chapel. During Adoration, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is recited and there is an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Come enjoy this traditional Catholic prayer opportunity in the company of others. Contact Deacon Paul Covino for more information.

Candlelight Prayer

Candlelight Prayer is a student-led prayer service that creates an environment for students to share their stories with their peers in a reflective setting. Students are invited to reflect on all aspects of their life in relationship with God and others. The service takes place by candlelight and consists of brief reflections around a particular theme, contemporary songs and time for private prayer. It takes place every other Tuesday night during the academic year at 9 PM in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit.

All are welcome to come enjoy the beautiful, reflective setting or to write and offer reflections throughout the year.

Charismatic Praise

Charismatic Praise meets every Monday evening at 9 PM. Students lead live praise and worship music and offer brief reflections on a variety of spiritual themes in the Chapel. Contact Scott Brill for more information.
