Assumption Introduces MBA in Healthcare Management Program

MBA healthcareBeginning in fall 2017, Assumption College will offer a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management, which will provide the essential business administration knowledge and skills required for today’s healthcare managers. Through this new program, which was developed with the help of health care experts, students will acquire an in-depth understanding of healthcare systems and the people they serve, developing graduates who are well-prepared to lead within the complex modern healthcare industry.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 17 percent from 2014 to 2024, outpacing the average for most occupations. As the significantly large baby-boom population ages and individuals remain active later in life, the healthcare industry is projected to witness increased demands for medical services.

In response to this growing need, Assumption College will offer the 42 credit/14 course MBA in Healthcare Management and a 18 credit/six course Certificate of Graduate Study for Healthcare Managers. Both programs are offered online to accommodate working professionals..

“I am excited that Assumption College is offering this impressive program in healthcare management,” said Shannon Thibault, MBA, MHA who is PMO Director at CenTrak, a leading healthcare software and services company. “The MBA in Healthcare Management is a quality program that responds to the complexities facing today’s healthcare professionals. Its unique design provides in one 42 credit program, what took me two separate degrees to accomplish—a core understanding of business administration and a depth of knowledge of the healthcare system.”

Graduates of this new program will obtain essential business knowledge and skills; a critical understanding of the ever-changing healthcare environment; capacity for transformative leadership communication and relationship competence; and development of their professional practice through scholarship and service, a hallmark of an Assumption education.

“The rapid expansion of the health care industry has created a tremendous need for well-educated  individuals with strong leadership and management skills,” said Louise Carroll-Keeley, Ph.D., provost of Assumption College. “Through this new MBA in Healthcare Management program, students will be provided a comprehensive course of study that will prepare them for successful careers of meaning within a field experiencing high demand for individuals who have a strong understanding of the complexities of the health care system.”

The MBA in Healthcare Management program is guided by Assumption’s identity as a Catholic College. As such, within the program, students are taught the dignity of each individual and to respect the interdependence of the healthcare system: patients, providers, payers, and the public. Assumption is committed to healthcare quality framed by the Institute of Medicine as safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. Students are  called to engage as professionals,  thoughtful citizens who act with mutual respect, integrity, and transparency for the common good.
